St. Patty's Day Minus The Green!

Happy St. Patty's day! I know I'm not wearing green in this post... However, I really wanted to share this look with you. I got everything that I am wearing for a deal! If you know me well enough, you would know that I don't believe in paying retail for anything. I mean absolutely nothing for regular price! The only time I'd make this exception, is if I know I wouldn't be able to get it, if I don't buy it that moment.

I got this beautiful coat from H&M. When I first saw it, I said to myself "Oh, that's cute!" However, as I got closer and saw the price tag, I was like "Oh yeah! That's really cute and the price is amazing!"

A young woman who was in ear shot, heard me talking to myself. She kindly asked me what the price of the coat was. I proudly said to her "Ten dollars!". She immediately said to me, "Well, when you're done with that rack, let me get over there, so that I can get one too!" We both chuckled. It's not every day that you get a coat for $10 dollars.

Now, this coat was also available in a camel color. However, it was priced at $20. I was like "yeah, I'll pass. Even though that was a good price too, I rather get a coat for $10 bucks.

As I mentioned before, I love getting items at a discounted price. During a shopping trip to Woodbury Commons, I stopped by the Loft.  I, being the type of shopper that I am, literally went through every rack before I finalized my purchase. While scanning through the sales rack, I spotted a group of jeans together on a lonely rack. When I got to the rack, I saw that my size jeans were present, I glanced down to the price tag and couldn't believe my eyes. The jeans were only $1.75. I picked up three of the jeans. Two for me and one for my sister. Honestly, these were the cheapest pair of jeans I have ever bought. Only the lord will know if I could ever get a steal like that again.

My Sorel "Joan of Arctic" snow boots were originally $180 and I paid $80 for them. That is 57% savings.  I was so excited to get quality footwear for 57% off! These boots has been great at combating New York's harsh winter weather.

Last, I want to talk about my sequins heart sweater that retails for $19.99. I actually didn't buy this sweater at H&M. I bought it off of Poshmark. Poshmark is a website/app where individuals resell items that they no longer desire to own. I purchased this sweater as part of a buy one get one free deal. So I purchased a floral shirt and this sweater for $6 dollars.

In conclusion, my entire outfit retails for $340 and I paid a total of 94.75 for my look. Thanks for reading!

A Nice New York Day!

Happy New Year... Yeah I know, I'm about three months and 6 days late! But hey! Like the saying goes, better late than never! My look today is a mix of some old and newly acquired pieces to my wardrobe. As many of you know, I don't have one designated style. My style is dependent on my mood and whatever is at arms reach the moment I am getting dressed!

Lately, the weather has been unpredictable in New York. Some days, it's very cold. Other days, it feels like spring has sprung. This day was one of the nicer days in New York.  This trench coat that I am wearing, I got about two to three years ago. It was a part of the Target x Altuzarra collaboration. Even though it's not the newest, I still get compliments up to this day and it's one of my go to trenches.

Even though my trench is not a recent purchase,  I did recently purchase this Micheal Kors sweater for $20.99 (the retail price was $88.00) and matched it with my Prada sunglasses that I scored for $38.00, when the retail price was more than $300 dollars! This was one of my amazing summer find! Like really, whenever do you score Prada sunglasses for less than $40 bucks?!

Honestly speaking, I know people who go crazy about getting dressed everyday. My theory is this... practice envisioning your outfits in advance. That's it! Think about what you already own and make mental connections. Now... now... you're probably saying that sounds silly. However, it works for me. Some days,I wake up and BANG! I already know what I'm wearing. I literally put less than 5 minutes into thinking about what I'm wearing for the day!

Getting dressed every day, shouldn't feel like work! However, let's redirect your attention...of course... to my amazing heels!

Let's talk about these GORGEOUS Schutz heels! I found these shoes at a sample sale in New York that my boyfriend recommended I attend. It was a $25 bag sale. When I heard that, I was like you got to be sugar, honey, ice tea-ing me! Basically, what this meant is that you fill a bag with as many items as you can and you get the entire bag for $25 dollars. The only catch was that you were only allowed to put two pairs of shoes in each bag. So honestly speaking, based on everything else I had in my bag, I got these shoes for less than $10.

Thanks for reading! Can't wait until we chat again!

XOXO,

Monique

A Mix of Patterns!

As I browsed through my wardrobe in preparation for my outing,  I came across this cute striped sequins sweater. It instantly won and became a part of my outfit selection for the day. Once paired with a pop of colored denim and my leather converse, I was ready to go.

As I grabbed my regular go to jacket to step through my front door, a creative thought popped into my mind. How about I take a chance of mixing the detailed pattern of a recently purchased coat with my sweater. At first, I wasn't sure or pleased with my initial look. I asked my boyfriend about 5 times if this choice was wise. His response of course was "It's fine. If you like it. Then it's fine." In a woman's world, that was not an acceptable answer.

He could of easily said " Hey babe! You look great!" or "Honestly, I don't think it's working." All responses that I have received from him in the past. However, I convinced myself that stepping out of my comfort zone when it came to fashion was 100% okay!  I took the risk and my look eventually grew on me and I was pleased.

When mixing patterns and prints. I advise that you mix larger patterns and prints with smaller one to create a balance. If I had two smaller prints together, my look would of been to "busy" and even distracting. I also made sure to maintain solid colors within my denim and handbag to keep this look from being an epic fail. Try mixing some prints of your own. You'll be surprised in how great it looks!

Rock The Vote! Let Your Voice Be Heard!

Hi All! It is exactly one week since our presidential elections! Being an individual who believes in exercising my rights to vote, I made sure I voted last week! For those of you reading this post, I hope you understand the importance of having a voice and making that voice be heard. Whether it is the presidential elections, a local election, a town hall meeting, or a congregational meeting at church.

It is very important that you stand up for what you believe in and share your thoughts with those around you. Most times, you will find that many people share the same opinions with you. Or on the other hand, you'll find some who oppose your thoughts.

In that case, I'll say this. Everyone has a right to their opinion. Support and lean on those who share and understand your point of views and experiences. For those who opposes it, don't disrespect and undermine them. Instead, show compassion and welcome a civil debate, sharing your thoughts and allow them to share theirs. This approach creates an environment of respect,  so that you can respectfully have a conversation to better understand of each others point of view.  Standing up can be hard when you feel you're standing alone. However, only one person is needed to motivate those around them!
