A Lovely Fall Day

This autumn season has been amazing! I love the weather and how nice it has been. It's hard to believe that November is next week. During nice days like this one. I take the time to walk within my neighborhood and reflect on my goals and aspirations. I analyze the choices that I have made and think about what worked and didn't work for me and how I would move forward from there.

When I'm not too busy planning my life. I admire my neighborhood and the beautiful historical houses that exist within it (I'll post photos of some of them for you soon). This may be the reason why so many popular shows like Blue Blood, The Good Wife, and many other TV shows and movies has been filmed here.

As I walk down the block, many times I catch myself singing catchy top 40 songs and enjoying the fresh air with my dog Lyla. This day, I had been in the house all day and it didn't make sense. It was a beautiful day! A lovely fall day! So I got dressed and made plans to meet up with some of my friends.

I kept my look simple yet, sophisticated. I played with the colors navy blue and tan.  I had bought a really cute navy blue jeweled tank and I really wanted to wear it. I paired it with a tan blazer, jeans, and heels. This look is truly effortless. Yet structured enough to present me in a well put together manner.

Now a days,  I don't get to relax and take in my surroundings too often. I am always on the go and finding time for myself is very limited. So when I get a chance to relax, I take full advantage of it. I hope you are enjoying this wonderful weather!

Thanks for reading and supporting me!

Flying in Style!

I know I haven't posted in over week and I am sorry for this but honestly this week has been a very long and rough week for me. Sometime I have so much going on that I just want to jump back in bed and never come out from under the covers. So to relax my mind, I reflected on my summer vacation to Vegas for my birthday.  On that trip, I had so much fun and had fun traveling in style.

One of my favorite ways of traveling is by air. I developed this love for traveling by air during my many trips to Belize to visit my family over seas.  I just loved being in the airport! The feel of the crisp cold air, the effects of the bright welcoming lights, and the hustle and bustle of individuals and families passing through each checkpoint and arriving at their boarding gate.

It was an exciting experience for my siblings and I. My mother always made sure we traveled in style.  As I grew older, I guess it just stuck with me. When I travel, I like to be comfortable. So I put on a pair of comfortable jeans with a nice light weight striped button up to compliment my converse sneakers.

When I saw these sneakers, I knew it was something I had to have. It was so patriotic, Americana and a steal!  I brought these sneakers a few months back for $20. I couldn't turn down a good deal.

Continuing my patriotism, my carry-on bag was a back pack with an American flag printed on it. This was another purchase that I couldn't turn down. It had so much character that it definitely would be one of my favorites in my closet and it matched my converse perfectly.

I cant wait to step foot in airport to go to .an amazing destination. However, from time to time, I need to remember that I don't need to go away to go on vacation.  I just need to not work as hard and take time to rest and recuperate with mini staycation.

In a later post, i'll share some of my vacation pictures from Vegas!

Thank you for reading and your support!

Xoxo,

Monique

An Autumn Trench and Boot

Last week was a short work week for me and I was truly gratefully for it.(Thank god for holidays!) I had been working endlessly and was extremely tired because of it.  Many weeks I would say to myself, let the countdown begin "Monique, you can do it! Only four more days until Friday." So with my four day weekend, I took the time to rest. I spent much of my time home with Lyla. She was excited to see me home with her throughout the day. So we lazily laid on the couch, watched TV, and surfed the internet for hours. It felt good having absolutely nothing required of me. For a moment, it actually felt weird not having anything urgent to do or complete... but honestly I wasn't complaining. Neither was Lyla, she had me all to herself.

This photo was taken after Lyla's visit to the vet office.

On Friday, I got out and ran some errands. I was aware that my weekend was nearly over. While out, I maintained a casual dress code paired with my Altuzarra trench coat and boot from his collaboration collection with target.

When I first saw this coat during the online preview, I knew I had to have it. I loved the olive green color with the black sleeves detail.  It was such a fashionable everyday trench. It could be worn casually or dressed up.

When this trench became available for purchase, I bought this one and the black one because I knew I was a coat junkie. I have so many outerwear pieces, its RIDICULOUS! I have to admit, I am an outerwear, shoe, and accessories junkie. I have so many that I need to purge in order to make space for the new items I am purchasing.

However, this is very difficult for me to do. I love all my items and they are timeless pieces that will never go out of style. But hey, as the saying goes... Out with the old. In with the new. Is it as difficult for you, as it is for me, to let go pieces to make space for new ones? I am praying that your answer is YES! Because if it's no, then I guess I have problems.

This trench was only available for purchase online and is currently sold out. However, you may not be completely out of luck. My sister contacted me around 1:30 am today saying that an x-small became available on Net-a-porter.com and she purchased it. So my advice to you is to periodically check that site. This trench is also available on Ebay but the prices are RIDICULOUS! Sellers are truly trying to exploit desperate buyers.  If you really want this coat right away. Buying it on Ebay may be the best (yet very expensive) option for you.

Another purchase I made that I loved was these boots. I had purchased both the ankle boot and over the knee boot. However, my over the knee boot was damaged when I received it and I ended up returning it. It was a lost, but the ankle boot in my opinion was constructed better then the over the knee boot. I received many compliments wearing it that day and it confirmed that this shoe was a good purchase. It is also rather comfortable (keeping in mind that it is not made of leather.)

I intended to order this Kate Spade bag in brown but I mistakenly purchased it in white and green. Fortunately, it matches my trench coat perfectly.

This four day weekend was well deserved and I can't until Friday is here again. I know today is only Monday, but for me the weekends are always better. I wish you a wonderful Monday and thank you for reading!  Talk to you soon!

Xoxo,

Monique

A Happy Place called Photoville!

Yesterday was the last day of summer! What a bummer!... But it's okay. Even though I am not in love with fall, there are many things to look forward to during that season. Last weekend, my boyfriend suggested that we spend our day with two of our closest friends, Andrew and Bianca. These two are amazing people with great personalities; so why not spend such a wonderful day with them.

In the heart of Dumbo, there we were, walking from cargo container to cargo container admiring the collections of photography create by emerging and established photographers. Each collection had a story to tell. Whether it was the happy days of being a child growing up in the seventies or a tragedy and the will power of perseverance that allowed the individual to overcome their struggle. Many of the photographic images resonated with me. Especially those that portrayed the effects of war and poverty.  I have always been sensitive when viewing people in need. That's why I am as charitable as I am.

Besides the photography, there are many photo opportunities available for you to experience at Photoville. I had a really lovely day there and you should check it out before it ends on September 28th, 2014.

This is what I wore for my day of fun.!
